IOD Director of the Year Awards

A celebration of leadership talent, success and achievement

James McLaughlin profile

Chief Executive
Cure Leukaemia

Before being appointed CEO of blood cancer charity Cure Leukaemia in 2012, James held senior commercial roles within sport for 15 years including 2 Premier League football clubs, Nike and our very own Edgbaston Cricket Ground.

In his current role, he has developed a co-ordinated strategy with the world class clinical team based at the internationally acclaimed Centre of Haematology in Birmingham and, in 2017, the charity broke the £2m barrier for the first time, an increase of 50% from previous years.

This success helped complete the funding required for the expansion of the globally significant Centre for Clinical Haematology (CCH) at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and also secured national support from global company Deutsche Bank.

Cure Leukaemia was established in 2003 by Professor Charlie Craddock CBE and patients Graham Silk and Michael Woolley to allow patients with blood cancer in our region to access the remarkably effective new treatments which were then becoming available.
