IOD Director of the Year Awards

A celebration of leadership talent, success and achievement

Gary Headland profile

Chief Executive
Lincoln College Group

Former RAF man Gary has turned around a heavily indebted body that was too reliant on central funding during a time of austerity. He has placed a new focus on international operations, with flourishing partnerships in Saudi Arabia and China proving particularly fruitful and helping boost finances, turning a loss into a £2.7m net surplus and a very healthy £7.1m (12.5%) EBITDA, which puts the Lincoln College Group among the most profitable colleges in the UK.

Today, the college can report that 52% of its funding is now generated through UK commercial and international operations, putting it in a far stronger position

The Lincoln College Group (LCG) is a c£60m group of eight colleges in Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, China and Saudi Arabia.  Collectively, the LCG touches the lives of around 18,000 students and apprentices annually.  Their strategy is to become an extraordinary organisation and have made substantial and sustainable progress during the past year to that end.

They deliver education and training across all 15 subject skills areas from foundation level up to and including honours degrees.
